Texas, Harbinger of Doom

Mr. Blow, thank you for continuing to do what is necessary for journalism and protection of Democracy. Reveal the facts in detail of the gerrymandering and attempts at white dominance and weakening of rights in Texas. Your analogy of contagion that spread with Jim Crow is timely and a warning for the plague of bigotry against so many groups beyond white supremacist narrow boundaries of who they deem human. They might as well be putting the founders original sin in their legislation that women, trans, and people of color and Democrats be reduced to 3/5 human. Let’s return to James Baldwin’s question. Why do these white folks have to dehumanize others in order to feel they have identity, strength, power. (Go check out how he really expresses white men’s need to feel like a MAN at his expense which I can’t repeat here but more hits the mark). It is painful to see the women who support these repressive movements. I guess it’s internalized patriarchy. Dunno. The main moral and spiritual question that exists in our tragic escalating infection and polarization is: how do we try to retain connection across the divide. How do we continue to recognize each other as human. How do we open up our angry narratives to save our community, our families and friends and our country as estrangement increases like a speeding bullet. I recommend Angel Kyoto Williams’ podcast ‘On Being’ with Krista Tippet as an inspiration for reaching out to the ‘other’.
