Summer has No Doubts
About her own body
summer has no doubts
pressing you close
with her loose rhythms
and wet loyalties
while graciously the sun
lets down its hair
holding back nothing,
the light so strong
buds break through
trees’ toughness
to muscle
fully into the world.
You wonder,
during winter’s fierce grip
is summer a blossom’s
most luscious fantasy
and do trees dream?
Even the dirt
is revealing itself
as roots plunge deep,
deeper, into the yielding dark.
Once more,
faith has bloomed
in Earth’s hips and lifted up
its green and golden praise
so even you begin
to move again
like any body of water
towards its source.
Whatever the losses,
you know
summer comes
and goes
but will never leave you.
